Nicotinic Acid (Niacin; Vitamin B3)
Here we are talking about very high doses of Niacin. We’re not talking about your RDA (recommended daily amount). We’re talking about extremely high doses such as 1,500mg.
B Vitamins are water soluble and Nicotinic Acid is Vitamin B3, so you will eliminate it typically but there are side effects associated with this such as intense flushing and heating up. Manufacturers created a slow-release version to try to make the flushing not be as powerful, but the problem with the slow release one is that it causes liver damage. High levels of Niacin also increase blood sugar, so this is not an option for diabetics.
- Requires high doses
- Side effects include flushing and itching
- Contraindicated in diabetes
