Well, I did it, I made another video, as promised. This one is on how to massage your own forearms. The great thing about this technique is you don’t need any equipment. You don’t need a lacrosse ball, tennis ball, barbell, stick, or anything! You just use your knee and shin! Enjoy!
Supplemental info:
Spend at least a minute on each arm. You’ll find that as you keep working the area, you will find really tight bundles or knots or really tender spots. As the area warms up, you will be able to get deeper into the structures and breaking up adhesions in all those layers of muscles. How many layers of muscles are there? A LOT!
Believe it or not, all the three arms in this photo below are the same arm, showing the same anterior compartment where all your flexor-muscles are that you are trying to massage through. The difference between the photos are just how the inside of your arm looks at different depths!
When you’re massaging yourself, if you find parts that really hurt, spend some extra time there until you feel some release. This is an exploration into your own body. You can also experiment with making a fist on purpose or using your other hand to un-curl your fingers as you massage your forearm. But really, just keep working through and experimenting with different pressures, waves, and directions while you’re kneading your own muscles. This type of soft-tissue work is also known as self-myofascial release.
If you want more anatomical info, here is my article that’s dedicated toward the detailed muscular anatomy of the forearm.
Update! Here’s a video on how to get the other side…
