Class 1B: Mexelitine (Mexitil), Tocainide (Tonocard), – p.o.
Class 1C: Flecainide (Tambocor), – p.o.
Lidocaine used to be the only Class 1B drug we had up until the 1990’s. The problem was you couldn’t send the patient home with Lidocaine cause it was an IV only drug. Nowadays we also have drugs like mexelitine that have a pharmacology similar to lidocaine which can be given orally to keep their ventricular arrhythmia at bay.
