I may be traveling out of the country next year with a friend and when I asked how we should keep in touch since texting/calls will be expensive.
I said, well, there’s WiFi spots everywhere and when we have a connection we could send each other facebook messages. And then he exclaimed, “We’ll use Viber!” I had no idea what that was. I downloaded it and this was a very cool program.
Instead of Skype, where you have to know the persons login name, with Viber, your PHONE NUMBER is your LOGIN NAME. So your contacts on your device are also your Viber contacts! Viber automatically detects your contacts who already have Viber. All you need to do is click on a name and start talking. No invites. No hassle. It’s seriously really cool.
Even if the app is closed and not even running in the background, you can still receive calls through the service. The user is sent a push notification via Apple’s servers, a ring is generated, and as soon as the user clicks “Answer” on the notification, the app is launched and a connection is made.
