Chloramphenicol

It’s pretty rare that you’re going to see this drug these days. It’s hepatically eliminated. It’s never going to get into the urine so you can’t treat it for UTI. The risk with this anti-infective is aplastic anemia where the bone marrow shuts down and the RBCs are not being produced. It does cross into the blood brain barrier so it’s used for meningitis and also good for anaerobic infections.
