Recipe: Okay so get four bananas. Slice them up. Put them on a plate. Throw them in the freezer for 2 or more hours so nice and frozen. Get a blender, throw them in the blender (or food processor). They will start breaking up into smaller pieces. You may have to use a spatula against the walls to bring the banana back down into the blades. Eventually it becomes rich, airy and creamy. Serve immediately. Or if you want to freeze it, and save it for later, you can, but it won’t be as creamy.
That recipe is good for about 2 people so all you’re doing is eating 2 bananas each. (Each medium sized banana will give you about half a cup of ice cream. A single banana is just 100 calories with zero fat and it feels quite filling if you savor it. Regular ice cream in general is extremely high in fat and carbs usually. For anyone into leangains, this is a perfect food for training day. So is Haagen Dazs Mango Sorbet.)
Some tips for your blender: In the beginning, use the ice crusher feature if your blender has it. Or if your blender doesn’t have that option, just do it on the slowest setting. Constantly remove the blender jar and tap it down hard on the counter. That removes all the air and brings the stuff back down toward the blades. (If you’ve seen anyone at smoothie-stores like Robek’s, they’re constantly doing that.) It also helps to use a spatula to whip the stuff off the walls of the jar and move it around. Once it starts getting somewhat creamy, you can start increasing the speed on the blender. After about 5 minutes of constantly tapping down the jar and using the spatula, you’ve got yourself the most awesome, healthy ice cream ever.
BONUS! Turn this into a Two-Ingredient Recipe and BLOW PEOPLES MINDS by adding Peanut Butter after you’ve blended the bananas into the creamy texture. If you’re using 4 bananas, try adding a couple tablespoons and it will be SO DELICIOUS. Want to keep trying amazing variations? Try a couple tablespoons of peanut butter and a tablespoon of honey. Or how about just four tablespoons of Nutella. Or what about a 1/3rd cup of chopped frozen Strawberries and some heavy cream? Now we’re getting into crazy three-ingredient-territory.
ENJOY!
