This is a challenging exercise popularized initially by Bruce Lee. According to the Chinese zodiac, Bruce Lee was born in both the hour and the year of the Dragon and he called these "Flags of the Dragon." Apparently he would hold himself static in the horizontal position for 30 minutes as an exercise! This exercise also appears in Rocky 4, so I put that video clip in the beginning for kicks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moyFIvRrS0s Important safety cue not mentioned in the video Your … [Read more...] about How to do Dragon Flags [Video]

It takes a different kind of energy to soften that muscle. … [Read more...] about Yoga is one of the best things that have come into my life.

Note: The lingo here is predominantly intended for body-weight exercise enthusiasts and/or gymnasts. If you only do strength training in a traditional gym with barbells and weights, you probably don't work on static-holds so a lot of this may seem unfamiliar to you. You could familiarize yourself with bodyweight exercises in my bodyweight training routine and the concept of progressions here. The need to curtail progressive overload for static positions When it comes to strength training, … [Read more...] about How to Implement a Steady State Training Cycle
http://youtu.be/eTq8oqjm2Wc If you can almost get your hips over the bar, but not quite... try again in a day or two and you'll nail it. Help! I can't get my hips to the bar! A strong pull up is required, so make sure you are pulling at the same time. If you are pulling and the hips are still lagging, then you need to increase your explosive core strength by practicing "Toes to Bar" hanging leg raises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9knQsSe23o In the above video I go over what constitutes a perfect pullup. You need to make sure you are going down all the way until the elbows are straight and preferably utilizing the "scapular pull" which is a movement that occurs in the shoulders and shoulder blades despite the arms being straight. I can't quite get my chest to the bar yet, how can I start pulling higher? It's all about quality over quantity in this case. Go for less reps, but replace … [Read more...] about How to perform really clean pull ups

Pull ups are very important in regards to FOUNDATIONAL strength. They are a compound exercise that call for many different muscle groups, so they're very effective at strengthening many weak links all at once. Most notably, they strengthen the upper back muscles. The very same ones that are often weak and in a stretched out state because we sit in chairs all day with our shoulders forward/rounded, making us more kyphotic than ever. If you think in terms of pushing or pulling, it's like we're … [Read more...] about How to do a pull up if you can’t even do one
The people responsible for this are domestic terrorists. If any other group of people tried to shut down the government, they would be in prison for treason. If this isn't extortion at the very least, then I don't know what is. And yes, it's atrocious that out of all people, they are still getting paid. Our congress is blatantly corrupt. They are sell outs to the lobbyists funded by the largest corporations and there's nothing we could do about it. We've never had companies this huge in … [Read more...] about Just a quick word on the government shut down…
Most people know me have noticed I love music from all around the world and have a particular love for Brazilian music. This one is particularly amazing because first of all, it's the live concert version recorded at Carnegie Hall. Live versions are often a little more special with a bit more feeling than the studio production. (Also, when you hear the clapping after, it's like a reaffirmation that the song was indeed, amazing.) And second, the song itself contains both a mix of Portuguese … [Read more...] about And if it is real… I wanna touch, I wanna feel, she can dance, she belongs, she believes.
