Hey there friends, I joined this new website called Fitocracy just a couple weeks ago and I wanted to tell you all because I think this website is the first of its kind that is actually a great motivator for working out.
If you exercise today, you go on the website and proudly log whatever you did and you’ll start to build up points, unlock achievements and level up! You could log literally any type of exercise, whether it’s cardio or weight lifting or even yoga. This sounds like just about any other website but WAIT.. there’s more! (infomercial much?)
First, the cool game-like aspect…
As you exercise more, you unlock achievements and level up, just like a MMO game!
- Levels: Every activity has an appropriate point value. Level up through real, hard work.
- Quests: You can do “quests” based on your situation which are very specific ways to work out that get you bonus experience points.
- Achievements: There’s all sorts of achievements, varying from extremely unique workouts to using their social website to great effect, and the only way to uncover them is to keep exercising!
Watch out world… nerds are about to get BUFF. (Unfortunately, typing does not qualify as cardio.)
Combine the game features with friends or groups and BAM! Fitocracy.
What makes this extra cool is that you could have your friends get involved and get in a group all together! I’ve realized that when I see my friends logging their exercises, it motivates me to do something, anything, if I’ve been lazy lately. In fact, if I haven’t logged in any exercise for that day, the website will even suggest exercises for me that I could do and explains how to do the exercise properly.
You could find groups to join, start your own, invite your friends to join your group and motivate each other to stay active! As a group you build points together, level up and it’s very fun to see everybody progress. Anytime somebody in your group does some exercise, you could “Give Props” or leave a comment the same way you would “Like” or comment a status update on Facebook. You could even link the site to other social media sites like Facebook or Twitter, if you wanna show off.
How to join Fitocracy
If you would like to join the fun, you need an invite and I have about 10 right now that I could send. Just leave a comment below using your real e-mail address and I will send an invite to you. When you register, you’ll get 10 invites of your own so you could invite your friends as well. I recommend you invite your friends to the site, especially the ones who are active and nerdy, and start a group for your friends so you could motivate each other. If you would like to get connected with me on fitocracy, go to my profile by clicking here and click “Follow” and I will invite you to the main group I’m a part of.
I found this hilarious infographic as well: A complete morons guide to fitocracy.
This is such a great tool for staying healthy, I absolutely love it and I hope you find it as fun as I did. Oh and just a quick tip, cardio gets more points than anything else which is awesome for a cyclist like me. 😉
